Remember Apple’s upcoming retail store in Dresden’s suburban mall we told you about? Today the company confirmed on its German retail site plans to officially open this store on Thursday, March 31, at 8am. Matter of fact, grand opening is being planned throughout the weekend, with extended store hours from Thursday (8am to 10pm) to Friday (9:30am to 10pm) and Saturday (9:30am to 12am). Beginning with April 4, the store will resume normal working hours between Monday-Saturday from 9:30am to 9pm....

Update: An anonymous source cited by MacRumors claims that Apple is planning a major expansion of its retail store program in Latin America, with the first two stores slated for Mexico City. A blurry photo of a claimed internal recruitment document (below) is provided. Other countries are also said to be in line for their own Apple Stores, including Chile, Peru and Argentina. The tipster claims the first Mexico City store will be located in the upscale Via Santa Fe area of Centro Santa Fe, the largest shopping mall in Latin America, while the second store will allegedly be in a prominent shopping district and adopt Apple’s next-generation store design used in Brussels, Cupertino, Dubai and elsewhere....

Two senior government officials have said that Apple is ‘discussing with the Indian government the possibility of manufacturing its products in the country,’ reports the WSJ. Apple is said to be seeking financial incentives in order to proceed. Apple has been trying for some time to open retail stores in India, plans which have been stymied by a government requirement to source 30% of products locally in order to be permitted to open single-brand stores....

Over the past few days, a notable amount of users have complained about WiFi issues plaguing the new 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models released during the week of WWDC. Besides less-battery-intensive chipsets, the marquee feature of the new MacBook Air revolves around faster WiFi connectivity thanks to new 802.11ac cards. As with any new product, bugs are plausible. Update: Mark Gurman says the Mind app will be a new, rebranded, version of the Breathe app. Findings from developer Khaos Tian may have given us a heads up about some of the new features Apple is going to announce on Monday for its WWDC keynote. As seen by Tian, the App Store manifest has been updated to include references to several new app bundle identifiers. ‘com.apple.NanoTips’ and ‘com.apple.NanoContacts’ likely refer to new Apple Watch apps (as ‘Nano’ is often used as the internal codename for watch apps)....

Both Samsung and Apple have slipped in smartphone marketshare globally during the first quarter of 2014 according to the latest numbers from research firm Strategy Analytics. While global smartphone shipments grew 33 percent to 285 million units in Q1 compared to 213.9 million in the same quarter last year, Apple and Samsung collectively dropped from over 50 percent of the market to 47 percent. The report cites strong growth of “second-tier smartphone brands” such as Huwaei and Lenovo and lack of entry-level devices in markets abroad from Apple as the main contributors to slowed growth for Samsung and Apple....

Apple plans to improve work conditions at its iPhone and iPad-assembling Chinese factories, and Foxconn executives announced today that it would share the initial price of that venture with the Cupertino, Calif.-based Company. According to Reuters: Apple and Foxconn began bettering conditions for workers earlier this year by raising wages in mid-February from 16 percent to 25 percent, and then they hired thousands of new laborers the next month to reduce overtime in the factories....

Apple has long been rumored to be setting up a manufacturing presence in India, with a report most recently outlining some of the concessions Apple was seeking from the Indian government. Now, a new report from the Times of India claims that Apple will start manufacturing the iPhone in India in April of 2017, while the company has also posted a handful of job listings in the country. Apple engineers are in the process of contacting iPhone 4S owners in order to determine the cause of alleged battery life issues. One iPhone owner told the Guardian that Apple engineers “installed a monitoring program” on his iPhone to diagnose the source of the problem: The unnamed iPhone user was apparently experiencing a “10% drop in standby every hour”, he turned off location services and Siri in an attempt to troubleshoot which new features exclusive to the iPhone 4S might be causing the battery loss to no avail....

A paywalled report suggests that Apple will be facing bigger bills from TSMC for its A-series and M-series chips … Digitimes reports. While the site speculates that this may see Apple charge more for the iPhone 13 lineup than the iPhone 12 one, the supply chain has absolutely no visibility into the Cupertino company’s pricing plans. Back in October, Instagram removed the ability to see other users’ likes and comments within the Activity tab. However, third-party apps such as Like Patrol continued to offer a way to stalk what others are doing on the social media service. Now Apple has pulled Like Patrol from the App Store. Instagram first sent a cease-and-desist letter to the developers of Like Patrol back in October, informing them that the app was violating its terms and conditions based on how it uses scraping to collect public data....

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer and poster for the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror film, Antlers. Following his multiple Oscars wins for The Shape of Water last year (including, the prize for Best Picture), del Toro set an overall deal with Fox to develop sci-fi, horror, and/or fantasy films as a writer, producer, and/or director. The first movie under the deal is Antlers, which del Toro produced with Crazy Heart and Hostiles filmmaker Scott Cooper making his horror directing debut from a script cowritten by Channel Zero creator Nick Antosca....

Nokia has announced that Nokia and Apple have finally settled all of their long-running patent disputes relating to mobile phone technology. As part of the patent agreement between Apple and Nokia, Apple has provided Nokia with a one-time payment and will continue to pay Nokia royalties for use of their patents. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop: “The patents in question relate to technologies for enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space, allowing smaller and more compact devices”, according to Nokia’s May 2010 lawsuit filing....
