We told you about an iOS 6.1 lock screen bug earlier today that—although not extremely easy to accomplish—allows users to bypass the device’s passcode and view at least the phone application. Apple has confirmed now that it is working on a fix, and the company noted in a comment to AllThingsD that it “takes user security very seriously.” Apple confirmed in a support document this morning that it is working to deliver a fix to the “continuous loop” Exchange server bug on iOS 6....

Earlier this week it was reported that Apple was teaming up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a new Apple TV+ drama series. Now, Variety reports that Apple has acquired the rights to a documentary from actress Bryce Dallas Howard for its streaming platform. The documentary, called “Dads,” is described as a “light-hearted” take on modern families and parenting. It will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday: “Dads” is produced by Ron Howard, who just so happens to be Bryce Dallas Howard’s father....

Apple is out with its Q2 2015 earnings results today reporting $58 billion in revenue including $13.6 billion in profit earned during the first three months of this year. Apple continues to ramp up its original content efforts today with a new show starring Jason Momoa. The show is entitled “See” and is said to be a “world-building drama” set in the future… As reported by Variety, Momoa has been cast in the lead role in the series. Momoa is perhaps best known for his role on Game of Thrones, where he had a one-season role as Khal Crogo. Most recently, he has landed the role of Aquaman and stars in the Netflix series Frontier....

Last time we checked Apple’s plans to bring 3,600 jobs to Austin, Texas with a $304 million investment and the construction of a new campus, the company received approval on the last of several major incentives from city officials. The approval officially initiated an Economic Development Agreement between Apple and the city, but the project was still not 100 percent confirmed. Reports originally said Apple would build the new campus on 38 acres at West Parmer Lane and Delcour Drive, and today’s report from AustinBusinessJournal confirmed Apple recently purchased land near the address:...

Apple is reportedly in talks with investment bank Goldman Sachs to offer new financing to consumers buying iPhones, watches and other devices. For some customers, this could offer them a better deal than they can get today. Few details are revealed, so it’s not known whether this would supplement or replace either of Apple’s existing financing schemes, which offer interest rates ranging from 0% to 28.24% … The WSJ reports that the financing would take the form of a loan rather than a credit card....

According to Palo Alto police department spokeswoman Sandra Brown (via Bloomberg), Apple executives may have known Steve Jobs’ condition at the time of the iPhone 4S launch event. Apple informed police that Steve Jobs passing was close, days before Apple’s official statement confirming he had passed. As a result of the meeting, police apparently put plans in place for officers to patrol Jobs’ home after the news of his passing had broke....

Apple has finalized iCloud pricing. At WWDC, it announced that 20 GB would cost $1 a month and that 5 GB would be free. Now, Apple has announced the costs for every tier. You can get 200 GB for $3.99, 500 GB for $9.99 and 1 TB for $19.99 a month. This is near identical to competing offerings by Google. Some people may be disappointed that Apple has kept 5 GB as the free option, given that almost everyone now exceeds that minimum capacity....

Apple is giving its social media department a significant shot in the arm this week. The Cupertino-based company has hired Musa Tariq, the former social media chief for both Nike and Burberry. At Nike, Tariq ran general social media marketing as well as social media partnerships with athletes across all Nike product platforms, and at Burberry he led “strategy and innovation” for social media… Apple currently utilizes several forms for marketing, but the company’s social media presence has not been up to par with some of the viral marketing campaigns led by its competitors in recent years....

According to a new report from Silicon Valley Business Journal, Apple has inked a deal to lease over 300,000-square-feet of industrial manufacturing space in Santa Clara County, California. Apple’s leasing deal comes as industrial warehouse vacancy continues to shrink in the area. Citing real estate records, the report says that Apple has leased 313,978-square-feet of space at 407 N. McCarthy Blvd in Milpitas, a city in Santa Clara County. Apple is said to have signed a 10-year lease for the building, paying roughly $0....

Twitter tested an anti-troll feature earlier in the year, allowing select users to choose who is able to reply to their tweets. The experiment was clearly a success, as the latest version of the iOS app makes the feature available to all … Update 8/6 12:30 pm: It turns out Twitter made a mistake and is not rolling out the feature widely yet. The company told The Verge that it accidentally published the wrong release notes....

Earlier this week, one of the executives responsible for Apple’s COVID-19 exposure notification technology took to Twitter to express frustration with the adoption of the technology in the United States. Now, a new report from the Washington Post goes more in-depth on how much of the United States still isn’t using exposure notification apps, even as the omicron variant pushes case numbers to all-time highs, and Apple has responded. Myoung Cha worked as Apple’s head of health strategic initiatives when Apple/Google’s exposure notification API was created, but he’s now moved on to the health-care start-up Carbon Health....

As we expected based on our intel leading up to the event, Apple just introduced refreshed MacBook Airs live on stage at it’s WWDC 2013 keynote address today. Apple announced that the new MacBook Airs will be arriving with the new Intel Haswell chips, as expected, and spent most of the time talking about increased battery life for the devices which now includes up to 12hrs battery. The 13-inch model now boasts battery life up to 12 hours (up from 7 on the previous generation), while the 11-inch model is expected to get 9-hour battery life (up from 5 on the previous generation)....

In a surprise announcement, Apple has cancelled plans to open a large data center in Aabenraa, Denmark. The news was posted on the local town’s website. Apple is looking to sell off the land and leave the site completely. The Aabenraa site was set to be Apple’s second data center in Denmark, first announced in July 2017. The company is also working on a facility in the city of Viborg …...

Apple today has unveiled a new ad for the fourth-generation Apple TV that highlights the plethora of apps and content available on the new tvOS platform. The ad, which runs 1-minute long, follows a series of shorter advertisements all focused on specific apps and games available on the device. Today’s new ad is entitled “The Future of Television,” a phrase Tim Cook has used in the past to describe apps running on the Apple TV....

The Apple engraving service – available as a free option when ordering one of six product categories direct from Apple – has been accused of political censorship in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Apple aims to ban offensive words and phrases, and in the US bans 170 words. In China, however, the number of banned words and phrases is more than a thousand, and includes many political references… Apple lets you engrave AirPods, AirTag, Apple Pencil, iPad, and iPod touch....

Apple: Spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said Apple welcomed the the announcement. “We are very happy that AT&T is now supporting VOIP applications. We will be amending our developer agreements to get VOIP apps on the App Store and in customers’ hands as soon as possible.” Skype President Josh Silverman said: “Since launching our iPhone application six months ago, people have downloaded and installed Skype on 10% of all iPhone and iPod touch devices sold – making it clear that people are extremely interested in taking Skype conversations with them on the go....

As part of its media event, Apple has announced a new 9.7 inch version of the iPad Pro from $599. It features much of the same internals as its 12.9 inch cousin, with A9X chip, Apple Pencil support and Smart Connector. Although in most respects, the iPad Pro is the same as its big brother it features significant upgrades in the camera department. The 9.7 inch iPad Pro has a 12 megapixel rear camera, 4K video recording and a 5 megapixel front camera....
