Apple today updated its webpage for its enterprise app solutions to show that a few of the apps have been updated with Apple Watch support. Apple first launched the MobileFirst for iOS solutions last year through a partnership with IBM and most recently added 9 new apps in March bringing the total up to 22 across several industries. The first three of Apple’s enterprise apps to receive Apple Watch support include: Hospital RN, Field Connect and Incident Aware....

Yesterday saw the latest report of a planned Apple Car launch, this time saying it will happen in 2024. This is, of course, just the latest installment in the long-running Apple Car saga that dates at least as far back as 2007. Phil Schiller said that Apple execs discussed building a car even before the company released the first iPhone in 2007, and Tony Fadell recalls kicking the idea around with Steve Jobs in 2008....

Tim Cook is no stranger to conferences and keynotes, and later this month the Apple CEO is set to appear at the first Startup Fest Europe in Amsterdam. With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing around the world due to the Omicron variant, some companies are once again closing their retail stores. Now Apple has decided to close all of its stores in New York City after having temporarily shut down other stores across the US and Canada. As first noted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, all Apple Stores in New York City were partially closed on Monday. The stores will remain open for in-store pickup of online orders, but customers can no longer visit the locations....

COVID-19 contact tracing apps built on the joint Google/Apple exposure notification API have saved thousands of lives in some countries, but have largely proven ineffective in the US. A report examining data from the apps finds that many states didn’t even get as far as creating one; take-up was low; and very few users bothered to log infection in the app, rendering it useless … None of the blame rests with Apple or Google, who both played their part by making it a trivial task for US states and countries around the world to build their own privacy-respecting apps....

It was reported last week that macOS Big Sur has a serious issue that can result in data loss when users try to upgrade a Mac to the latest version of the operating system without enough space available. Apple has finally fixed the issue with a new build of macOS Big Sur 11.2.1, which properly checks if the disk has the required space before starting the upgrade process. Mr. Macintosh first reported that several users were getting an error message when upgrading a Mac computer to macOS Big Sur, which caused the Mac to no longer boot — and the only solution was to delete some files from the internal disk via Target Disk Mode (which doesn’t work for some models) or to wipe the entire disk....

BioWare’s Anthem has officially become the worst-reviewed game for the developer. The recently released online MMORPG takes players to a world abandoned by the gods, who left behind mysterious items called the tools of creation. One of those tools is the Anthem of Creation, which is responsible for the majority of what exists in that world, from technology to phenomena. An evil group called the Dominion wants the Anthem of Creation for itself and will stop at no lengths to possess it....

Truecaller is a popular anti-spam app that alerts users about unwanted calls and text messages. This week, the company announced a major update for the iOS version of the app, which has been completely rebuilt with improved filters and other new features. With Truecaller, users can separate important communications from spam or even fraud. The app uses native iOS APIs to do this in a way that is integrated into the Phone app, so you can identify a spam call directly from the call screen....

Led by music industry groups, rights-holders in Europe have been pressing local lawmakers and consumer electronic device makers to agree to such a tax. They want money raised through this levy to be distributed to rights-holders. Today’s news is that consumer electronic companies – after stiff resistance to such proposals – may now be willing to declare a truce in these negotiations, in order to find a mutually satisfactory solution....

According to reports from Italian blog Fanpage (via TechCrunch), Apple just bought Italian startup Redmatica, a company that creates software to enhance the capabilities of popular audio sampler software like the EXS24 used in Apple’s Logic Pro recording suite. The proof apparently exists in a document from local regulator AGCOM that was obtained by the blog. Apple has not confirmed that it acquired the company. However, if true, it looks as though Logic Pro could get some powerful and easy sound design tools in the near future....

Apple has long been working to establish a presence in India, but the country’s strict requirements for retailers and companies have made it a very challenging task for Apple. Whether or not Apple will be legally allowed to open retail locations in contradicted by several reports, but the long-standing roadblock has been that Apple does not have a manufacturing presence in the country. India has generally required that any company with retail locations manufacture a portion of the goods in the country, though it has been reported in the past that Apple could circumvent that requirement....

We always caution that you can never tell which Apple patents will actually make it into products, but a patent for an Apple headphone intercom feature has to be a good bet. Apple first debuted an intercom feature — albeit branded as walkie-talkie — on the Apple Watch. A couple of years later, it brought a more advanced version of the same idea to HomePod. Apple is raising prices for apps in Australia, Indonesia and Sweden within the next 3 days. In an email, Apple has notified developers that they are updating prices in the three countries in response to foreign exchange rate variations. Prices are being increased across the board. For example, today a $0.99 app in the Australian App Store is sold for 1.29 AUD. When the changes come into effect, customers will have to pay 1....

Apple’s failure to deliver on its App Store promise could well end up costing it dearly in its defense of antitrust investigations all around the world. Regulators are trying to answer two questions. First, does Apple’s approach to the App Store harm developers? Second, does it harm consumers? If the App Store lived up to the promises Apple makes, then the company would have a solid defense against the second charge....

Apple has started rolling out TV shows in addition to iTunes in the Cloud support for TV shows and movies to Apple TV and iTunes users in Germany. A report from Germany blog iFun.de notes the iTunes in the Cloud functionality, allowing users to access TV shows and movies that were previously purchased through iTunes, is now accessible from both Apple TV and the Purchased content section in iTunes on the desktop and iOS devices....

Apple is continuing to push into health care, this time striking a deal with Epic Systems for a Mac-friendly version of its health records app. As reported by Axios, the deal will see Epic Systems create a version of its health records tool that “is easier to run on Apple devices.” Apple had reportedly pushed for Epic to create a “native version of the service” for Apple devices, but the two companies settled on this compromise of a version that is “easier to run on Apple devices” instead....
