Apple Car rumors have been slow for the past couple of months. Today, a story from MacReports says the company has increased the number of self-driving cars but decreased by almost half the number of drivers licensed to drive these cars. As of today, Apple has 68 self-driving test cars, according to the California Department of Motor Vehicles. In November of 2018, the company reached a peak of 72 cars, then a few months later, it was 66 operating vehicles....

Update: Megan Mohr has since written a blog post explaining more about how Apple handled the incident. A report today cites 15 different women accusing Apple HR of mishandling serious misconduct allegations, and more than half of them say that the company retaliated against them for bringing the complaints. One of the allegations related to a sexual assault committed outside of work hours and premises. This can be a tricky area for companies – but the human resources manager responding was said to have been entirely dismissive, likening the attack to “a minor traffic accident” …...

Some podcasters are reporting that they are seeing a steep decline in listenership, specifically when using Apple’s Podcast Analytics tool. In an email to podcast creators today, Apple says that it is aware of the issue and is currently investigating it as “they do not match playback data in Podcast Analytics.” Apple also says that shows submitted between November 16 through the 26, as well as December 21, 2018 through January 2, 2019 will see a delay longer than the typical 5 business days....

Apple also fixed security vulnerabilities in iOS 10.2, which span accessibility, accounts, Find my iPhone, graphics drivers, image capture, local authentication, mail, media player, profiles, and springboard. Of note are some nasty sounding exploits that could potentially cause a denial of service from a maliciously crafted video, arbitrary code being executed from a malicious certificate, and a few holes that let people with physical access to your phone access some content without unlocking the screen....

Apple published some news regarding App Store Connect. Starting October 22, 2021, developers will have to provide additional banking information. Account-Holders, Admins, and Finance roles can now provide a valid address in the Agreements, Tax, and Banking section. Users must update these pieces of information until October 22 in order to avoid a potential interruption of payments. Due to changes in local regulations, the bank account holder’s address is now required if you have bank account information in App Store Connect....

Apple (AAPL) has officially reported its earnings for fiscal Q3 2021, covering the months of April, May, and June. For the quarter, Apple reported $81.43 billion in revenue, up 36 percent year over year, and profit of $21.74 billion. It reported earnings-per-share of $1.30. This compares to the revenue of $59.7 billion and profit of $11.25 billion the company posted for the same quarter last year. Apple did not provide guidance for Q3 2021 due to uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but analysts still had their expectations....

Earlier this week we reported that Apple had added Beats Music to its Apple Apps prompt for customers opening the App Store for the first time following its $3 billion acquisition of Beats Electronics and Beats Music. Since that discovery Apple has gone one step further in the App Store adding it to the top of its “Apps Made by Apple” list linked at the bottom of the App Store for all customers in an effort to further promote the streaming music service app and show ownership of the Beats Music....

Following a slew of updates for iOS, OS X, tvOS and watchOS, Apple has also given its web portal iCloud.com some love too. Last week, Apple took iWork for iCloud out of beta. Today, Apple has added the Find My Friends web app to the site. Mirroring the app for iOS, the web app shows a map of friends who have opted in to sharing your location with them; pins for each person are displayed on an Apple Maps map....

Apple Arcade is about to complete its second year next month, as the service was announced by Apple in March 2019 and then launched to the public in September of the same year. Weeks before its two-year anniversary, Apple Arcade has now achieved the mark of 200 games available in its catalog, which includes original and classic titles. As noted by CNET, Apple’s gaming platform hit the 200-game mark on Friday following the addition of Super Stickman Golf 3 to the catalog....

Apple is marking the 10th anniversary of iTunes with a special microsite which, in a rather nice touch, opens in iTunes itself. Apple has published a new support document explaining that starting on May 25th, it will drop support for the iTunes Store on Windows machines running XP and Vista, as well as the first-generation Apple TV. The company says the change is due to security updates… The support document, first noted by MacRumors, explains that Apple will introduce security changes on May 25th that prevent older PCs from accessing the iTunes Store....

Apple Park is getting closer to an official opening as the company begins hiring staff for the visitor center that will include an Apple Store and, for the first time, a cafe that’s also open to the public. Apple announced back in February that it would begin moving in employees to its new Apple Park headquarters in April ahead of completion, but we noted earlier this month the area is still fenced off and appears to mostly be under construction....

In updates to our original story, we noted the hack’s developer, Alexey V. Borodin, said in an interview that Apple’s method of validating receipts for developers would not protect apps from the hack. Apple followed up with a statement that claimed it is investigating the issue....

It’s been several years since Apple announced its intentions to move beyond its retail presence in San Diego and build a hub of hardware and software engineering. Now in what looks like the company’s first commercial purchase in the area, Apple has bought HP’s old 67-acre campus as it ramps up work on making an in-house modem and more. About 20 miles from many of Qualcomm’s offices, Apple has purchased HP’s old inkjet research lab campus in Rancho Bernardo....

As is becoming a tradition, Apple CEO Tim Cook stopped by the Palo Alto Apple Store close to Apple’s Campus today to meet and greet folks buying up Apple’s latest releases, the iPhone SE and iPad Pro 9.7. While the store wasn’t quite packed, it does appear that Cook got to meet and get some ‘facetime’ with both employees and customers. The Palo Alto Store isn’t the closest to Apple’s campus but it is the one that Steve Jobs used to show up to unannounced frequently and is one of the more open layouts in the area....

Apple today has shared yet another new iPhone 6s ad focusing on the device’s always-lisnteing “Hey Siri” feature. Earlier this week, Apple debuted two new advertisements for the iPhone 6s, one focused on the device’s improved performance and another on “Hey Siri.” This ad stars highly acclaimed director Jon Favreau and showcases the iPhone 6s being used on a film set. Entitled “On the Set,” this 15-second advert shows Favreau utilizing the “Hey Siri” functionality of iPhone 6s to quickly find out information on a scene he is attempting to shoot....
