Apple Studio Display is now officially available in stores, and there are already multiple customers around the world who have gotten their hands on the product. Unlike the Pro Display XDR, Studio Display has a unique power connector that seems to be non-removable. It turns out that the cable is detachable, but you need a special tool to remove it. On its website, Apple says that the power cord of the Studio Display is not removable – and multiple users have thought the same thing....

The enterprise apps partnership between Apple and IBM has reached the goal the two companies set of bringing 100+ MobileFirst apps to the business and professional sectors. Many enterprise customers of course use these in conjunction with existing consumer apps. The companies plan to make future apps even more powerful … IBM today announced it has delivered more than 100 IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps, as part of its partnership with Apple, to transform work across 14 industries and 65 individual professions, from wealth advisors to flight attendants, first responders, nurses and retail buyers....

Apple didn’t say much about what’s new in the Files app with iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 during the WWDC 2020 keynote — maybe because not much has changed. But there’s an important new feature that brings iPhone and iPad one step closer to the Mac when we talk about file management, and that’s APFS encrypted drive support. With the next major update to the iPhone and iPad operating system, users will be able to access encrypted drives through the Files app....

Earlier today, Mark Tweeted the amusing new file Apple put in iOS 5.1 beta 2 which includes a lot of silly references to devices that don’t exist. This isn’t entirely new – Apple had done this to another file in iOS 5.1B1. As you’d probably expect, it isn’t going to stop developers from finding the special sause inside iOS 5.1B2. That doctored file is a high level file which is easily found....

Accessory makers in Apple’s Made-for-iPhone/iPad/iPod (MFi) licensing program now have the ability to create new types of products as the company adds specs for a Lightning to 3.5mm output cable and USB-C ports. The new specs were detailed in Apple’s recently updated materials for manufacturers in the MFi program, according to sources. With the new specs, companies in the MFi program can now include USB-C receptacles on their officially certified iOS and Mac accessories for charging....

Apple today has revealed a new game subscription service it is calling “Apple Arcade.” This will allow iOS, macOS, and tvOS users to pay a flat monthly fee and access a bundle of otherwise paid apps through the App Store. Apple is working with a handful of publishers and developers for Apple Arcade. The company touted that the service will unify gaming between mobile, desktop and living room, a clear reference to macOS, tvOS, and iOS gaming....

Update: Shipment dates are all over the place for the Apple Watch. Many models are already showing delivery dates in June, while the Edition shows an August arrival date. Some 12-inch MacBook models still ship in 1-3 business days. As expected, the highly anticipated Apple Watch is now available for pre-order through Apple’s online store. Likewise, the new 12-inch MacBook is now available for purchase through the online store. Pre-orders of the Apple Watch and sales of the MacBook are also live in the Apple Store app on iOS devices....

Fast Company reports that Apple has acquired Gliimpse, a health startup whose stated aim is to allow any American to pull together a comprehensive picture of their health, which they would be free to share with medical professionals as desired. The acquisition reportedly happened ‘earlier this year.’ While it hasn’t yet been noted on the Gliimpse website, Apple has issued its usual ‘non-denial’ statement that it ‘buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans....

We’ve learned more details this week about Apple Card ahead of its launch set for sometime this month. Now Apple’s bank partner, Goldman Sachs, has published the Apple Card Customer Agreement on its website with all the fine details, including a warning about jailbreaking. During the company’s earnings call earlier this week, Tim Cook confirmed that Apple Card would be launching in August. We also learned today that Apple is winding down its rewards program with Barclays and that an Apple Card companion app will be coming to the iPad....

Apple and Intel have filed an antitrust lawsuit against Fortress Investment Group, a company backed by SoftBank, reports Reuters. The lawsuit essentially claims that Fortress is an extreme patent troll who is fielding repeated nonsense cases against the tech giants. It alleges Fortress stockpiled patents for the primary purpose of suing companies in a manner that violates antitrust laws. In the complaint, Apple said that it has “suffered economic harm in the form of litigation costs and diversion of resources” in having to deal with the Fortress lawsuits....

Slovenian manufacturer Gorenje caused a stir at IFA this month when it launched its iPhone-controlled fridge – but the company aims to produce everything you need for your kitchen – all controlled by your iPhone. Electric Pig reports on Gorenje’s other products, a washing machine and oven, all of which can be controlled by the iGorenje software the company produces, which is free to download and works with the iPhone and (naturally) the iPod touch....

The Apple Irish tax ruling in July went against the European Union, the judge stating that it had failed to prove that Ireland offered illegal state aid to the iPhone maker. As we predicted then, however, the EU has now lodged an appeal. The EU did wait until the last minute to do so, making the filing today, the last day of the appeal window … The EU said today it is now taking the case to the European Court of Justice....

Update: Re/code has obtained what it says is a draft of the letter, which can be read below. Tim Cook has been vocal about his opposition to President Trump’s immigration orders, but now it appears that Apple is planning to take its opposition further. According to Recode’s Kara Swisher, Apple is among a handful of companies working on a formal letter opposing Trump’s immigration and travel orders. According to Swisher, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook are among the companies collaborating on the letter, which will be the first joint effort from United States businesses to support immigration since Trump’s executive order last week....

Last time we checked in, the new fourth-generation iPad with Retina display was listed as shipping in “3-5 business days” from Apple’s U.S. website. That was down from the estimated one-week shipping time Apple had listed for the device in the weeks leading up to the device’ official Nov. 2 launch alongside the iPad mini. Since then, Apple announced it sold 3 million new iPads (iPad 4 and iPad mini) over the first three days that the devices were on sale....

Alongside new iPhone 6 models, Apple introduced the new A8 chip to power both devices. The company says its new system-on-a-chip has 2 billion transistors over 1 billion transistors from the A7 chip introduced last year with the iPhone 5s and iPad Air/iPad mini with Retina display. The actual A8 chip has a 13% smaller footprint making more room in the device for other components. Performance wise, the A8 chip boasts up to 25% faster CPU and up to 50% graphics performance....

Apple just released a press release confirming the new iPad will launch in the United States and nine additional countries March 16 at 8 a.m. local time. We first confirmed the 8 a.m. launch yesterday in leaked marketing materials. The countries geared for the initial launch on Friday include: the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Apple also confirmed launch stores for the U....

Today’s update provides a new design for the majority of support pages available through Apple.com/support, including: Videos, Manuals, Tech Specs, and Downloads. Apple used to present these pages using a design that was a few generations behind the rest of the site and displayed links in a search result style list....
