Apple has updated its online store with a quicker, same-day delivery option on select items ordered in certain zip codes. The new “courier delivery” option, which promises to deliver “on the same day, within four hours”, has been added today as an additional supported faster delivery method for items bought on Apple’s online store. Apple previously only offered guaranteed shipping services with additional fees that promised next day shipping or next day shipping before noon.
While Apple’s same-day courier option is extremely limited by item inventory and supported zip codes, the store pages for iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple TV now each mention the faster delivery option. Apple’s Shipping and Pickup documentation has also added the description for the same-day delivery courier option today.
Same-day delivery through Apple directly first became an option when the Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad began including courier options on select items in certain markets. The four-hour window for delivery carries a $19 fee, or $2 more than expedited next day delivery.
Postmates, a service which offers same-day delivery in larger markets around the United States, is at least one service provider supporting Apple’s same-day delivery efforts. The list of items and markets that currently support same-day delivery through Apple’s online store and mobile app remains extremely limited, however, even compared to the number of markets already supported by Postmates.
With the option moving from an Apple Store app only one to being supported by Apple’s online store on the web as well, hopefully the courier delivery option becomes more available in the future. Interestingly, you may have better luck getting same-day delivery through Postmates directly rather than trying Apple’s mobile app or online store.
