We have received images of a white building under construction behind the Yerba Buena Center of the Arts, the venue for Apple’s ‘Spring Forward’ event on March 9th. The tipster said that security guards are patrolling the scene, wearing ‘Apple Security’ shirts, confirming the connection between the building and Apple. Apple built a similar external structure for the Apple Watch’s original unveiling in September, which acted as a demo hall for the products (iPhone 6 and Apple Watch) that Apple had announced at the event prior....

Apple is developing a new app as part of its work on iOS 14. The new app, codenamed Gobi, will allow users to get more information about the world around them by using an augmented reality experience on the phone. The AR experience would also be part of Apple’s forthcoming AR headset project. The iPhone or iPad would know about what augmented reality experience to begin based on QR-code like tags in the area....

Apple announced in a support document this evening (via The Loop) that its plans to release a tool for detecting and removing the Flashback virus currently installed on 1 percent of all Macs. Furthermore, Apple also plans to work with ISPs across the globe to disable the computer servers that are hosting the malware. Security experts over the past few weeks warned Mac users about the Flashback virus, which is now installed on roughly 600,000 Macs worldwide....

The barrage of applications taking advantage of Apple’s enterprise certificate program continues today. Reuters reports that software distributors have been using the program to share modified versions of popular apps, such as an ad-free version of Spotify. According to the report, software distributors including TutuApp, Panda Helper, AppValley and TweakBox have been using the enterprise certificate program to distribute modified apps. For example, AppValley offers a version of Spotify that does not include advertisements – even on the free tier....

The Apple Developer portal has gone down ahead of Apple’s WWDC event later today, where Apple will announce its next-generation software platforms for Apple Watch, iOS and OS X. Posters from within the venue show that Watch OS will feature prominently as a newly rebranded as ‘watchOS’. Update: The Beta Software Program page has also gone down — potentially indicating that iOS 9 or OS X 10.11 will be made available as public betas today....

While people are hyped up about the Apple September event, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman is back with more information regarding the upcoming Mixed Reality headset. Apple is continuing to slowly expand its autonomous vehicle testing program in California. According to new data published by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Apple now has 89 drivers registered to its crew. The number of self-driving vehicles, however, remains the same at 69 vehicles. Apple’s self-driving car efforts in California have waned and waxed over the years, as chronicled by macReports. After years of featuring the same, arguably stale design, Apple has redesigned the Apple ID web portal with a friendlier, modern look. The updated website now features product imagery including a girl wearing an Apple Watch Sport while using an iPhone and a MacBook can be seen with the logo illuminated in the background. The previous landing page featured app icons for iCloud, the App Store, iBooks, and other services that use Apple IDs, which were updated from iOS 6 to iOS 7 while the layout remained the same....
