Apple made a host of improvements to iTunes within iTunes 9, but at least one of those is going to be of huge benefit to a key category of the company’s stakeholders – Apps developers. The company has introduced a new App Store chart for the most profitable applications, which it has dubbed, the ‘Top Grossing’ chart. This is going to benefit some of its developers, as it joins the ‘Top Paid’ and ‘Top Free’ apps lists it already offers through the App Store....

Apple has launched new developer pages with a focus on the announcements they have made at today’s event. The pages are set to help developers get ready for the iPhone X, Apple Watch Series 3, and the Apple TV 4K. Each page from Apple’s site is dedicated to getting developers ready for all the upcoming technologies. While developers have had months to build out software that was previously released at WWDC 2017, some of the hardware specific changes were only announced today....

Alongside Super Bowl LV this evening, Apple is teaming up with country music artist Dolly Parton to offer 5 free months of Apple Music to new subscribers. In addition to the new promotion, you can also use Shazam to identify a Dolly Parton song during the Super Bowl to unlock a special surprise… For those unfamiliar, Dolly Parton created a new version of her hit song 9 To 5, cleverly named 5 To 9, as part of a Super Bowl commercial for Squarespace....

Apple has long been rumored to be creating its own original TV content, and now it’s made its first plans official. Apple shared today that it will work with TV executives Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens, as well as rapper Will.i.am on its first TV project (via NY Times). Silverman is perhaps best known for his work on shows like The Biggest Loser, while Owens is one of the minds behind MasterChef Junior....

Apple has asked developers who attended secretive Apple Watch app development workshops in Cupertino across January and February to hold off on announcing their applications, according to multiple high-profile developers. These people say that Apple has asked developers to not provide in-depth details, revealing screenshots and videos, or launch information about their applications until after the event at the very least. In some cases, Apple has even asked developers to wait until late March or early April to announce their applications…...

Following reports that Apple is now selling more iPhones in China than in the US, today Canalys is out with research showing Apple for the first time lead smartphone sales in China by units shipped during the last quarter of 2014. The incredible popularity of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in China in Q4 2014 has led Apple to take first place in the Chinese smart phone market for the first time by units shipped....

Update: Kapeli has responded to Apple’s allegations in a new blog post, claiming that Apple never made contact before deleting the app and developer account. Additionally, Kapeli shared audio of the phone call with Apple regarding the issue. Last week, we reported on the removal of popular developer app Dash from the App Store, as well as the termination of the creator’s Apple Developer account. The company that publishes Dash, Kapeli, originally stated that it did not have any idea why Apple removed the app from the App Store, though it was later revealed that Apple had found evidence of App Store review manipulation....

FOSS Patents is reporting that Apple received two more favourable rulings in their ongoing battle against Samsung in the courts. These judgements increase the chance of Apple winning the March patent trial “not hugely but significantly”, according to Mueller. In a judgement filed yesterday, Samsung was found to infringe on one of Apple’s asserted patents and one of its own patents in the case was invalidated. Samsung was found to infringe on patent no 8,074,172, covering autocomplete technology....

Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the company has been considering the whole COVID-19 situation before deciding to fully return to the office or even require employees to all be vaccinated. However, the company now seems to be asking employees to share their COVID-19 vaccination status “at certain locations.” The Verge’s Zoë Schiffer reported on Twitter that while Tim Cook has not confirmed that Apple will require employees to be vaccinated before returning to the offices, the company is now asking for the vaccination status of some employees in certain locations....

Reverse Wireless Charging was one of the rumored features for iPhone 11 last year, but Apple allegedly removed it from the final version of the devices. Now, FCC filings for iPhone 12 have revealed that this year’s devices might have a functional reverse wireless charging system. Following the iPhone 11 rumors in 2019, iFixit disassembled the new smartphones as usual and then discovered that the iPhone 11 Pro has some components that are part of a bilateral wireless charging system, but that was unfinished — so it doesn’t work at all....

It is really only a matter of time until one or two studios relent cough Disney and the other studios fall in line. It would be extremely surprising if the service doesn’t launch before 2008 with the announcement of iTunes 8 with the possibility of some HD quality content deals. Netflix and Blockbuster should be very afraid. The reality is that Apple owns the lion’s share of the digital media content distribution for the foreseeable future....

Apple iTunes 10.5 is brand new, released just a day before the Apple iOS planned launch tomorrow. It includes the final version, it says, of iTunes in the Cloud. This give you features like automatic downloading of previous purchases and WiFi syncing. Interestingly, iTunes 10.5 doesn’t require or even include the old Apple standby QuickTime. Well, finally Apple fans can have a breath of respite. They can now pre-order the new iPhone XR. Last month Apple released its 2018 line-up of iPhones. Out of which iPhone XR was center of many discussions and debates. Now, the Apple iPhone XR pre-order begins, but currently, only members with the upgrade program can order it. Apple will once again drop the mask mandates at its retail stores starting this week, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Apple is first planning to make the change at “more than 100” of its stores in the United States on Friday, the report says. Bloomberg reports that the new mask policy was announced in an internal memo to retail employees today. Apple is making the change based on declining COVID-19 case numbers and increased vaccinations....

Early today, a report by The Elec suggested that the first OLED MacBook has been delayed while there isn’t a sign of a product with a micro-LED display, the successor of miniLED. Now, a story from Nikkei Asia says that Apple is in an “active development program” of new products with this technology. It’s not just from today that Apple has been rumored to add a micro-LED display to its Macs and iPads, as it’s the natural evolution of the mini-LED display....

According to a court filing discovered by Reuters, Apple and Google’s Motorola Mobility unit have agreed to settle their ongoing smartphone patent litigation battle against each other. In a statement, the two companies said that this agreement does not include the ability cross license each other’s patents, but rather the promise to “work together in some areas of patent reform.” The two tech giants have been battling it out over various patents for several years now, both directly and indirectly....

Following AT&T’s announcement this morning, Apple confirmed 2 million pre-orders in 24 hours. That statistic more than doubles the pre-order record of approximately 1 million units held by the iPhone 4S (600,000 for iPhone 4). Apple also noted demand is exceeding its initial supply and some pre-order customers will not receive their device until October. For those doing the math, that is 83,333 units an hour (or 1,388 a minute, or 23 a second, etc....

The new features will begin rolling out July 8 with the ability for teachers to create and manage previously uploaded lessons directly from the iPad.
