After launching a new ad campaign on Tumblr for the iPhone 5c a few weeks ago, Apple has today attempted to bring the campaign to a more mainstream audience on the Yahoo! homepage. The ads were also run on the New York Times homepage this week, though they seem to have disappeared now. The new ad features an interactive grid of eight patterns, each of which plays a different video that uses the design of the iPhone 5c and its case to create an animated scene....

After the US Supreme Court gave the go-ahead for an antitrust case against Apple in regard to its App Store practices, Apple responded with a brief statement. It has now expanded on that with a new webpage entitled App Store Principles and Practices. The company takes a pretty strong line, stating that while it welcomes competition, it also needs to protect its customers. The web page opens by explaining Apple’s twin goals for the platform and goes on to explain the protections the company chooses to put in place....

Now, we know we’re all incredibly curious as to just what Apple’s hatching up for its future product road map, but company executives have so far declined to disclose just what it is they’re planning to send into flight. And they don’t seem to want anyone else to be too excited about it – so ditch those tablet rumour-writing pens, folks. All execs have said at this point is that these increased air freight costs are “nothing to do with iPhone”, and “are about getting units into the channel for the holiday....

One of the new features introduced with iOS 14 last year was the ability to see Air Quality in the Weather app, but this is restricted to only a few regions. However, with the first beta of iOS 14.7, the company is finally expanding this feature to more countries. As reported by multiple users on Reddit and Twitter, iOS 14.7 beta 1 brings the Air Quality feature in the iPhone Weather app to more regions....

In Apple’s latest Machine Learning Journal entry, the Siri Speech Recognition Team shares an overview of the work behind improving Siri’s understanding of names for regional points-of-interest by incorporating the user’s location. Based in part on data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Apple has been able to tune Siri to better understand users based on where they are and what POIs they’re more likely to ask about. Apple says machine learning on its own has helped improve automatic speech recognition for general language over the years, but “recognizing named entities, like small local businesses” has proved a performance bottleneck....

Robin Burrowes, the person in charge of Xbox Live marketing in the EMEA region, left Microsoft for Apple and is now charged with heading the App Store marketing initiatives for iTunes Europe. Burrowes led Xbox Live marketing for seven years and were responsible for product, business and marketing management as well as planning, strategy and leadership of Xbox Live across regions, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to joining Apple, the executive was involved with Microsoft’s MSN online operation as events/B2B marketing manager, British retail chain HMV (promotions manager) and Tennent Caledonian Breweries (brand marketing manager)....

Apple is currently rolling a series of updates for all of its platforms. This includes Apple iOS 11.2.6, macOS 10.13.3, watchOS 4.2.3 updates. These are supplemental updates. Apple iOS 11.2.6 fixes App crash due to use of character sequences. It also resolves the issue where 3rd party Apps not connecting to external accessories. The App crash issue is a common bug occurring over all the platforms. So, apart from Apple iOS, macOS and watchOS also solve this update....

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has taken a side-swipe at Apple, suggesting that the company is effectively selling privacy as a luxury good. Pichai doesn’t directly name the company, but the reference is clear … Google’s head made his remarks in an op-ed for The New York Times. Apple has of course made its commitment to privacy a major selling point, with CEO Tim Cook not above similar digs at unnamed companies that everyone knows includes Google....

Apple ad revenue could grow more than five-fold by 2025, according to JP Morgan. The bank says that the opportunity is created by the Cupertino company’s growing Services business. The report seems highly speculative… Apple doesn’t detail its current ad revenue, and analyst Samik Chatterjee seems to imply that the number could only be reached by including some form of advertising within or around Apple TV+. Reuters has seen the report....

Late last week, Apple, Aetna, and various chief medical officers met to discuss bringing the Apple Watch to millions of the healthcare company’s customers. Today we’re hearing more specifics about the main topics of discussion. Aetna first announced it would be giving Apple Watch subsidies to its 50,000 employees at the end of last year, along with a program to do the same for a limited portion of its customers. At the time, Tim Cook said, “Aetna’s new initiatives will be a powerful force toward creating better customer experiences in health care, and we look forward to working with Aetna to make them successful....

At WWDC today Apple has also announced a variety of new features coming to tvOS this year. The update comes on the heels of tvOS 9.2.2, which is currently in beta for developers. New features include Single Sign-On, Live Tune In, and more. Eddy Cue introduced a variety new third-party apps coming to tvOS soon, including new games and video streaming apps: Fox Sports Go Molotov Sling NBA 2k MineCraft Story Mode SketchParty There are also a handful of improvements to search with Siri on the fourth-gen Apple TV....

Early reviews of Apple Arcade started surfacing this morning, and now some iOS 13 users have been granted early access to the service. Apple Arcade is officially set to launch on Thursday, September 19th. If you’re running the iOS 13 or iOS 13.1 beta, you can head to the App Store and tap the “Arcade” tab along the bottom. If you’ve been chosen to access Apple Arcade early, you should see a “Try it free” button....

Ahead of the iPhone 5s’s launch later this week, Apple has put up a notice for developers to start submitting 64-bit compatible App Store apps. One of the iPhone 5s’s marquee features is a new 64-bit A7 processor that improves gaming and speed performance across the system and apps. Apple’s notice to developers: Notably, it appears that 64-bit apps will (currently) need to be separate applications from those that are 32-bit and iOS 6 compatible....

Two reports on claimed Apple Car production plans have emerged today. One suggests progress on the rumored $3.6B Hyundai deal to make up to 100,000 cars per year at a Kia plant in Georgia, while the other indicates that other manufacturers are still in the picture. Apple is said to be in talks with at least six carmakers, with Japanese manufacturers seeing their share prices rise in response … The WSJ mostly echoes earlier reporting, but does say that Hyundai is ramping up preparation for Apple Car production....

As Tim Cook honors what would have been Steve Jobs’ 60th birthday, the Apple CEO has been spotted in Berlin, Germany. Specifically, Cook has made an appearance at the newsroom of BILD (Bild-Zeitung), the famous German newspaper, alongside the publication’s editors-in-chief Kai Diekmann and Julian Reichelt. Notably, BILD the newspaper is a sister publication to Computer BILD the technology magazine which famously said it lost access to review units and Apple events following their coverage of the iPhone 6 and ‘#bendgate’ last fall....
